IN reply to Reverend John B Gordon (Dear Star, October 14) I call myself an atheist, having suffered the pangs and pains of what some people call Christianity. How can you win when you see little children in Boothall Hospital riddled with cancer and when they die, people say "Well, the Good Lord wanted them." If he had waited another 20 years or so he would have still got them.

And 66 years ago at Poynter Street Sunday School, after all the preaching and singing was over, we of the tatty breeches and patches brigade, were kept inside till the 'Brand New Brigade' had gone. So much for suffer the little children to come unto me!
