IN your article 'Tough at the Top' (St Helens Star, November 4) there was a photo of a Mr Mark Dowd (on page two), a Merseytravel Executive. He was referred to as a Chair of the said company. May I correct you on this, a chair is what you sit on to chair a meeting. The gentleman concerned in this instance is a Chairman. If the meeting is chaired by a lady, then she is referred to as 'Madam Chairman'.

If, in the photo - it had been a woman, then she could have been referred to as a Merseytravel Chairwoman or Person.

I for one am fed up with all this sexist nonsense. A Chairman is a Chairman, and it is high time the feminist society started coming to terms with it and faced reality.

Let's get back to the classroom.
