What is 'wholesome' about replacing one group with unearned rank with another who have been chosen by the Prime Minister of the day?
One would not have objected to this legislation had the Government had the wit and motivation to work out the make-up of the new second chamber. Instead, we now have a mish-mash which, with Blair's record to date, will probably continue for some time.
