AFTER last week's fine performance against league leaders Milnrow, Blackpool Scorpions put in a disappointing Rugby League show against Halton Hornets, being beaten 28-12.

They started off brightly enough with Craig Campbell using the strong wind to his advantage by pushing the Hornets back with towering kicks to touch.

But once the home side found their rhythm they ran in two slick tries. Scorpions then had chances to score but the final pass usually went to ground.

Then ten minutes before half-time Paul Gray chipped over the defence, regathered the ball and as the full back tackled him he slipped the ball to the supporting Dave Ratcliffe who scored. Campbell converted to make it 10-6.

In the second half the game slipped away from the Scorpions as Halton ran in two more tries and kicked a penalty to lead 24-6.

The referee gave Simon Pritchard and his opposite number a lecture after they had a little disagreement, but sin-binned Pritchard. The Scorpions had their best spell in the last quarter of the game with Daron Green stopped inches short of the line.

Then Andy Johnson gave a short pass to Dave Ratcliffe who crashed over under the posts.

Campbell converted to make it 24-12 and Halton finished off the scoring with another try in the last minute.
