Widnes Albion 16 Portico Panthers 35 PORTICO showed true spirit and a lot of character to bounce back after the previous week's embarrassment. They travelled to Widnes fielding a young and inexperienced side and powered their way past the highly rated Albion side. Portico started strongly when prop Phil Greenough touched down under the posts after a clever Dave Lee kick, with Craig Peel adding the extras. Minutes later veteran Dave Ward powered his way over before Albion hit back with a converted try.

Portico continued to dominate and right on half-time Neil Kearns brushed his way through some poor Widnes defence. Peel converted.

After the interval Dave Lee sent Dave Scott over and Peel added the extras. Lee Cunningham stretched their lead when he touched down after a great break by Neil Kearns with Peel converting. Again it was a Dave Lee pass that sent Paul Ashurst over converted by Peel. Lee Cunningham who finished the game with a well taken drop goal. Best for Portico were Neil Kearns, Dave Lee, Paul Ashurst and Keith Tunstall. Top tacklers were Craig Peel and Dave Lee.
