THE St Helens Combination have now only two clubsstill engaged in the LCFA Intermediate Cup.

It follows the defeat of Pilkingtons Reserves by Kinseles FC, and the 9-0 drubbing of Prescot Leisure Reserves by Stanley House FC.

The successful clubs to compete in round four are Broad Oak who went through last week and this weekend's winners Child Reserves, who went into extra time before seeing off Clifton FC 5-3, goals coming from Alan Hughes (2), Gary Moore, Frank Jeffers and Barry Hunt.

On the Saturday league front, Shoe FC and Carr Mill FC, two of the St Helens Star Premier Division front runners thrashed out a goalless draw at Bishop Road.

But Haresfinch Social went under 1-2 at Carborundum and Penlake Juniors (Andy Greenall (2) and Mark Carrigg) had a 3-1 win over East Sutton Labour. Old Congs (Haydock) did well in drawing 2-2 at Gerard Arms. Sportsmans Athletic and Sidac Social battled out a 2-2 draw also in Division One with Andy Eaton and Barry Appleton scoring for Sidac. Steve Halliwell and Ian Ashby scored the goals that gave Travellers Rest a 2-0 win at Clock Face Miners Welfare but Billinge were held at home 3-3 (Gary Farrell 2, and Chris Wiggins) by a strong Nutgrove side.

In Division Two Green Dragon are still smarting following their 2-0 home defeat by Clock Face Reserves. Gerard Arms Reserves also went the way of their first team, losing 0-2 to Billinge Reserves (Barry Kenyon and Neil Cookson). Goals from Anthony Jaundrill, Peter Teeling and Glenn Howard were able to earn Top Nogs a 3-3 home draw against Earlestown (Wellington). Division Three side College St Helens, at present on a roll, thank Williams, Furlong, Holmes and Woodcroft for goals in a 4-1 defeat of Carr Mill Reserves (Chris Pimblett). Hardshaw Argyle had to rely upon a last kick of the game equaliser - sharing the points 2-2 at Cowley Hill Park, Steve Bradley and Peter Yates getting the home team goals.

This week's Saturday fixtures have been postponed because of the pending Scotland v England game.

The Third Round of the LCFA Sunday Intermediate Cup which involved Sunday League leaders Rose and Crown took pride of place on Sunday, however, after being 0-6 down at three-quarter time, the Rose and Crown outfit lifted themselves and fought back to 6-4, but time ran out and so at the hands of Greenlies FC, Rose and Crown suffered their 'first' set-back of the season.

Open Age Intermediate League manger Phil Duffy has named his squad of eighteen players for the Inter League match at Hilton Park on November 19 (Friday) kick off 7.45pm.
