BURY RESERVES 2, MAN CITY RES 1

GOALS from Baichung Bhutia and Martyn Forrest gave Bury Reserves an impressive win against a strong Manchester City side.

Watched by managers Neil Warnock and Joe Royle, Bury matched their opponents, who included no less than seven players with first team experience.

Jamie Pollock, Tommy Wright, Lee Crooks, Michael Brown, Lee Peacock, Jim Whitley and Gary Mason were in the City side.

In sharp contrast, Bury had four players in their line-up who had a total of six first team appearances between them so far this season.

Bury took the lead in the 39th minute when Bhutia took advantage of hesitancy by centre back Bernard Schuiteman right in front of goal to stab in his third goal in four games for the second string. The little Indian is looking sharper with every game and has enjoyed a purple patch this week with a hand in both Bury's goals against Tamworth before adding the one against City, all in the space of 24 hours.

Pollock equalised for City with a freak shot from the left wing following a corner that somehow eluded everyone in the box and went straight into the far corner.

Peacock wasted a great opportunity when he fired over, leaning back after a great ball from Stephen Jordan had put him in on the left in the 64th minute.

And Forrest made City pay with a well-placed 75th minute shot from 25 yards out that Wright must still be wondering about. There was a suggestion of a deflection, but Forrest must take the credit for the initial strike.

BURY: Wilcox, Barrass, Barrick, Souter, Linighan, D Swailes, Buggie, Forrest, Messer (Beal, 85), Bhutia, Avdiu. Subs not used: Challinor, Connell, Hill, Donnelly.
