SOLICITORS for former tourism chief David Christley have this week demanded compensation from former Labour council leader Stanley Henig The Citizen can reveal.

Mr Christley, who was unfairly dismissed by the council has already been awarded a cash settlement following the findings of an industrial tribunal and has currently a claim against the council for further damages - that six-figure claim has been passed to the council's insurers for consideration. This latest move is for an alleged defamatory statement made by the council leader following Christley's sacking.

A council spokesman confirmed that the personal claim against Mr Henig had also been passed to its insurers.
