YOUNG and old have teamed up to help record details of much-loved recipes from their village before they are lost forever.

Neighbours Ann Peters and Judith Jackson have compiled the Tockholes Village Favourite Recipe Book, to celebrate the new millennium.

Nearly 200 dishes from past and present villagers are featured. They include the exotic and frugal, ranging from coriander rasam and tiramisu to 'cut and come again' cake and bread and butter pudding. Copies of the cook book, which also includes recollections of the role of food in village life, can be bought for £5 from Halifax, in Borough Road, Darwen, Tockholes Village Post Office or Ann and Judith. Proceeds will be split between the village school, playgroup, chapel and church.

Judith said: "Ann came up with the idea and I was more than happy to get involved. We started collecting the recipes from villagers of all ages and have been delighted with the response."
