A LANCASHIRE university thinks actress Jane Horrocks is absolutely fabulous!

Rossendale-born Jane was presented with an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Central Lancashire in Preston yesterday.

She is one of several people being honoured this week by the university for their success in their chosen field. Jane, a former pupil of Fearns High School, Stacksteads, received her award from the university's faculty of design and technology.

She has won acclaim for a wide range of stage and television roles, including dizzy secretary Bubble in the television comedy Absolutely Fabulous and LV in the stage and film versions of Little Voice.

David Crossland, founder and chairman of holiday company Airtours, was due to be honoured by the university's business school today. He started his career in a travel agents in Burnley. Airtours now employs more than 1,000 people at its bases in Helmshore and Accrington, and a further 11,000 around the world.

Tomorrow Nelson-born antiques expert Eric Knowles will also receive an Honorary Fellowship.

Eric is known for his work on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow and Going For A Song programmes.
