A MAN found dead next to a railway line was probably killed by a glancing blow from a train, an inquest was told.
David Howarth of Palmerston Street, Padiham, was found on the Huncoat side of Hapton station on Sunday.
Michael John Fort of Lower Dimpenley Farm, Roughlee, told the inquest that his stepfather, who was 48, worked for Hepworth's on Pollard Moor, Hapton, and knew the area well.
He last saw Mr Howarth on Christmas Day when he seemed fine.
Mr Fort added: "He and my mother had a couple of arguments but nothing particularly untoward. It had not been mentioned to me because they did not want to upset my family's Christmas."
East Lancashire Coroner David Smith adjourned the inquest while British Transport Police complete inquiries.
A post mortem examination showed Mr Howarth died from a head injury, possibly caused by a glancing blow from a train.
