INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the freak lorry accident which claimed the life of pedestrian Khalil Khan.

Mr Khan, of Moorgate Street, Blackburn, was walking to work on Tuesday morning when a wagon carrying paper bales overturned on top of him as it turned into the M65 link road from the A666 Bolton Road at Earcroft.

Mr Khan, 22, was pulled alive from under the lorry after a two hour rescue operation but lost his fight for life the next day.

Police accident investigators are now trying to find out what caused the vehicle, owned by Kenley Distribution and Warehousing in Darwen, to overturn.

Sgt Stuart Isherwood of Accrington traffic unit said: "The investigation is still in its infancy and all the usual inquiries that go on after any fatal accident are underway .

"The police accident investigation unit has been called in and our inquiries are continuing. We need to find out what caused the lorry to topple over."

Mr Khan had been looking forward to a bright start to the new millennium with his wife Claire Johanson, 21, as their five-month-old daughter Hannah Estelle Khan had recently recovered from meningitis.

Khalil worked as a joiner at Ultraframe Conservatory Manufacturers in Clitheroe for the past two years and was heading to work on the morning of the accident.
