AN EXTRA £100 million has been ploughed into cancer treatment centres.
The cash boost, announced by Health Secretary Alan Milburn, includes a large amount of money for the North West, which will be distributed during the next three years.
The money will be used to buy more equipment to help diagnose cancers more quickly and treat them more effectively.
Mr Milburn said: "We are investing to modernise the NHS to make it faster, fairer and more convenient.
"Nowhere is that cash more needed than for patients who might have cancer.
"It cannot be done overnight but step by step I am determined to modernise cancer care."
