TWO family pets died yesterday when fire ripped through a terrace house in Dean Street, Darwen.
The cats were overcome by smoke from the blaze which started in a living room settee.
Firefighters were called at 6.30pm but their attempt to revive the animals, who were in the kitchen, failed.
Smoke spread to the homes next door and the alarm was raised by a neighbour. The owner of the house was upstairs when the fire started.
The fire is believed to have been started by discarded smoking materials.
The living room was severely damaged and the rest of the ground floor was affected by smoke and heat.
