AN investigation is under way after a ticket mix up at a Lancaster nightclub left around 100 revellers "out in the cold" for the millennium celebrations.

Angry party goers claim their big night was ruined after they were refused entry to Liquid Nightclub despite having valid tickets.

Many had queued for up to an hour and were turned away at 11.30pm when door staff said the new club was full.

Management at Liquid believe there may have been forged tickets in circulation and the police have been called in to investigate.

One reveller, Daniel Wilson of Lancaster, said: "My new year was ruined. We had bought tickets which had the date and time of purchase on them and were completely valid. We were told that we had to be in before 11pm so we got there at 10.30pm and joined the back of a huge queue. When it got to 11.30pm we were told that the club was full and we would not be let in. There were lots of angry people about and the atmosphere was quite nasty."

Mr Wilson added: "We had been attracted to Liquid because it was a new club and had a special ticket offer. Everyone was looking forward to a great night but we were left very angry. We had bought legitimate tickets and expected to be let in.

"If there was a problem they could have told us earlier to save us queuing up for an hour."

Liquid manager Andrew Paterson explained: "We're trying to discover what exactly went wrong on the night and believe that there may have been some forgeries in circulation. We've apologised to the people who were affected and they have been given a refund plus free passes for this weekend."
