PNE boss David Moyes is keeping his fingers crossed that injured-jinxed striker Steve Basham hasn't suffered a further setback after breaking down in training.

Basham, who signed for £200,000 in the summer, limped out of training on Thursday after aggrevating an ankle injury for the third time in two months.

The 21-year-old has spent much of the season in the treatment room. First came trouble after his hernia operation in the summer, followed by a knee injury while led to cartilage surgery. His post-op training was then wrecked by the ankle injury which keeps flaring up.

"We've sent him to see a specialist and it is just a case of waiting and seeing," said David Moyes, who is keen to find out whether the three ankle injuries are a pointer to something more serious, or just bad luck.

"It could be that he is just unlucky or there could be something more serious.

"We were training just as usual and Bash went over in the mud. It has happened a couple of times and we now need to see what the specialist thinks."

"It is just a case of waiting for the reports."
