LEADING figures from East Lancashire are expected to attend a major conference on the future of the North West later this month.

Broadcaster John Humphrys will chair a debate being staged by the North West Development Agency on January 17.

The meeting will look at the NWDA's strategy document published in October and which set out plans for the region including improving transport and creating more new businesses.

Local members of the NWDA include Pendle businessman Dennis Mendoros and Burnley councillor Kath Reade. The meeting will be held at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
