FORGOTTEN hero Roger Hunt has been remembered in the New Year's Honours lists
The Culcheth haulage contractor and former Liverpool FC inside forward, a member of England's most famous soccer side - Alf Ramsey's 1966 World Cup winners - has finally received due recognition and receives the MBE.
Other honours have gone to former Wigan Social Services director Jo Williams and an OBE to long-serving Atherton councillor Joe Clarke (pictured).
A former Mayor of Wigan and 31 years a local councillor, Cllr Clarke, 79, has been rewarded for his work as chairman of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, recognising his efforts for services to public transport and the community.
Ex-colliery worker and HGV man Cllr Clarke is married with a wife Minnie, and sons Tony and Jeffrey.
He said: "I am delighted to receive this honour. It means a lot to me and represents lots of hard work and many happy memories serving the community.
"I want to thank the people of Atherton who have always supported me, colleagues at Wigan who nominated me to serve on the PTA, and everyone for their support and co-operation over the last 10 years."
