TWO Lancashire ladies are celebrating more than a new millennium after being recognised in the New Year's Honours List.
Community worker Phyllis Hardman and lollipop lady Margaret Brown are both proud recipients of an MBE after years of unstinting service to the people of the Fylde.
Mrs Hardman, of Lancaster Road, Knott End, has received the award for devoting more than 40 years of voluntary public service to the community across the Fylde.
A delighted Mrs Hardman said: "It was a great shock when I heard about it but I am delighted to know that people think I am worthy of this award. I feel very proud and it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
"I am looking forward to going to Buckingham Palace to receive it."
Margaret Brown has been awarded the MBE for her 30 years of seeing the school children of Layton safely across the road come hail or shine.
