MORE than 30 years dedicated service to youth by a retired teacher has been recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours List.

Mrs Margaret King (63) of Inglewood Road, Rainford, has received an MBE for her on-going work as co-ordinator of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at St Edmund of Canterbury School in Knowsley.

Born in Haresfinch and educated at Notre Dame High School, Eccleston, Margaret is married to Colin and they are the parents of Christopher, Rachel and Lisa.

A remarkably active senior citizen, Margaret's much-in-demand courses cover a wide range of activities including scuba diving, rock climbing and skiing, which she joins in with a gusto!

Said Mrs King: "The award scheme gives both the pupils and me a sense of achievement, and I love the work and hope to carry on for many more years.
