A COUNCILLOR who travelled to London just before Christmas to join the fight to win back millions of pounds from the Government to benefit ex-miners believes it will be a long, hard fight.
Councillor Leon McGuire has appealed to ex miners, or others sympathetic to their cause, to back the campaign by offering some of their spare time. Councillor McGuire is a member of the Community Coalfields Campaign, which is urging the government to hand back more of the huge £250million a year share it is taking out of the surplus in the miners' pension funds.
They want it to be used to benefit ex miners or the communities in which they live. Councillor McGuire, said: "It is obviously going to be a long campaign but we are determined to keep the fight going."
