A LOCAL nurse has been rewarded for her achievements in the New Year's Honours list.

Elizabeth Powell, who lives in Billinge, received an OBE for her services to primary care.

For the last 10 years the mum-of-two has worked as a practice nurse, and nine of those years have been spent with Dr Webster and Dr Twomey in Rainford.

Elizabeth has been working to develop practice nursing in St Helens since 1993 and has been appointed chairperson of the St Helens North Primary Care Group (PCG). She is one of only two nurses in the country to chair a PCG.

After learning that she had received the honour, a delighted Elizabeth, said: "I shall continue to work hard in my role as chair of St Helens North PCG, to improve health and health services within our local area. It is both an honour for me personally and also a reflection of the commitment of the Primary Care Group as a whole to make a success of the NHS reforms."
