A TALENTED young filmmaker looks set for stardom after her first short film scooped two top awards.

Former Rainford High pupil Helen Edwards, from Rainford Road, Windle, graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in June this year with a first class degree with honours in TV Production and Broadcasting.

While there, the 22-year-old wrote a script and turned it into a short dramatic film called 'Pillow Talk' which scooped the Regional Royal Television Society Student Award. It was also the joint winner of the Student Film Festival Award at the Cornerhouse Theatre in Manchester and has been nominated for a special screening at the National Royal Television Society Student Awards to be held in London next year.

Helen's proud mum, Lynne, told the Star: "Helen is taking a year out at the moment and is currently in Australia with her cousin and some friends but she was absolutely over the moon when I told her the news over the phone. I went to collect both awards on her behalf and we are all keeping our fingers crossed that 'Pillow Talk' will get a national award.

"Helen still reads the Star on the Internet to keep up with all the local news and she would love to see a story about herself ."
