NEIGHBOURS who claim inconsiderate motorists are causing chaos in two residential streets are "cautiously optimistic" of the matter being resolved following a meeting with the local council and Merseyside Police.

The meeting, called by residents of Maryville Road and Cliftonville Road, Prescot and attended by the Star, heard how some parents taking children to and from the nearby primary school were putting lives at risk.

One family told how an amubulance crew attending a stroke victim had to manhandle the patient between cars because a driver had parked outside the house and refused to move. A woman said she had been unable to visit her dying mother in hospital because someone had parked in front of her drive.

A representative from the local community police promised that action would be taken to ease the problems and anyone found illegally parked would receive a parking ticket.

A spokesman for the residents told the Star: "Since the meeting we have all received a letter from Knowsley Council containing a number of proposals. These include no parking or waiting at all times on certain parts of Maryville Road and no parking in front of driveways between 8am and 6pm, while Cliftonville Road will be access-only.

"The police have also booked a number of drivers for illegal parking and we have even had some traffic wardens in the roads."
