TRAINS were slowed to a crawl for safety after a lorry trailer got jammed under a railway bridge.

But engineers from Railtrack found the bridge in Bolton Road, Blackburn, was not structurally damaged.

The vehicle from TC Logistics of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was hauling a tautliner trailer which got stuck under the bridge.

Services from Blackburn railway station were temporarily suspended while engineers checked the bridge.

Railtrack spokeswoman Sue John said: "We allowed trains to cross the bridge at 5mph a short time after the incident and had them back up to full speed less than an hour after that. The bridge was not damaged."
