ACCOUNTANTS handling the troubled engineering group TransTec have received interest from potential buyers for its East Lancashire factories.

Receivers Arthur Anderson said they had received interest in all the group's subsidiaries including Earby Light Engineers which has factories in Earby and Colne.

But a spokesman said he was unable to go into detail about the future of individual parts of the TransTec group.

TransTec, which is part-owned by former Paymaster General Geoffrey Robinson, disclosed a problem with its accounts just before Christmas.

Earby Light Engineers has two factories in Colne and one in Kelbrook employing more than 250 people. It specialises in the machining of metals for the aerospace and automotive industries.

Three week ago shares in TransTec were suspended after it was revealed that an £11million customer claim had not been properly entered into the accounts.

Chief executive Richard Carr and finance director Bill Jeffrey both left TransTec after the problem came to light.

However, the company had already been hit by an increasing mountain of debt and slowing sales.
