HERITAGE bosses are celebrating a windfall of more than £220,000 in lottery cash to boost the gallery which displays the jewel in Accrington's crown - the world-famous Tiffany glass collection.

The Haworth Art Gallery, in Manchester Road, is to receive £221,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to attract more people.

The Tiffany collection, currently displayed in two rooms, will be spread across five rooms with improved displays and more information for visitors.

A council spokeswoman said: "The Tiffany collection is lovely to look at, but it is rather cluttered at present, with everything displayed together. We want to spread the collection out so that people can appreciate each piece."

The lottery money will also fund building work to refurbish the gallery and improve access, especially for disabled people and families with pushchairs. A lift will be installed to take visitors to the first floor, where the Tiffany collection is housed.
