PUB group Jennings, which owns dozens of East Lancashire hostelries, has reported rising sales.

The Lake District-based firm said the purchase of the Cafe Inns chain last year had helped increase turnover by 60 per cent in the first quarter of the current financial year.

Jennings bought 12 East Lancashire pubs including The Commercial, Great Harwood; the Cross Keys, Burnley; the Gordon Lennox, Cliviger; Burlingtons, Ribchester and the Victoria, Blackburn. In addition Jennings also runs the Dog and Otter, Great Harwood, the Edisford Bridge, Clitheroe, and the Walton Arms, Altham.

"Trading over Christmas and New Year was generally mixed with some excellent results from a number of our character inns," said chairman John Rudyard.
