A BURNLEY area family were victims of the Alder Hey scandal, in which babies' organs were removed without parents' consent, health watchdogs were told.

Community Health Council members heard that their staff had directed one local family to the hospital Parents' Support Group after it became clear their child was involved.

Now the CHC is backing Liverpool City Council's call for a full public inquiry into the whole issue.

Meanwhile, the community health council has received an assurance from Burnley Health Trust chief executive David Chew, that the Burnley hospitals do not retain body organs from children.

Mr Chew stated that very few post mortem examinations on children were carried out in Burnley.

CHC chairman Frank Clifford told members: "We continue to be horrified that people can and have taken organs without the express approval of their loved ones."
