THE case against a man accused of 18 charges of breaking food hygiene regulations at a Burnley takeaway was adjourned for three weeks by Reedley magistrates to allow him to take legal advice.
Mohammed Iqbal, 47, of Montague Street, Brierfield, was warned he faced fines of up to £20,000 on each charge or a possible jail sentence when he appeared in court yesterday.
He is being prosecuted by Burnley Council on 18 counts of allegedly contravening the food safety regulations last June at the Moonlight Takeaway, Croft Street. Mr Iqbal said he had since sold the business.
The case was adjourned until February 16 so that Mr Iqbal, who was not represented by a solicitor, could take legal advice. No pleas were taken and he was granted bail.
