A VOUCHER scheme for respite care is to be piloted by Lancashire County Council.
County Coun Doreen Pollitt, chairman of Lancashire's Social Services committee, launched the scheme today at Meadowbank Day Centre, Burnley.
Carers will be able to get the vouchers, each worth a bed for one night at an approved residential or nursing home and valid for a year, so that they can arrange time off for themselves in advance.
Coun Pollitt said: "Carers play a very important role in society and sometimes need a break.
"The new scheme has been designed to make it easier for users and carers to arrange respite care to suit themselves."
