BLACKBURN Labour Party secretary Phil Riley (Letters, February 24) asks what is wrong with bringing the issue of the Holocaust to the attention of new generations by establishing a Holocaust Memorial Day.

Today's generation has no interest in this day which the Prime Minister has instituted.

Mr Riley said it is so that it does not happen again. How many times, in regard to different incidents, have we heard this phrase?

I was a serving soldier from 19 years of age in the last war, going from El Alamein to the final advance into Germany - so I have seen it all, something that all of today's politicians never have and never will.

WB CAMPBELL (Mr), Maple Street, Great Harwood.
