REGARDING the council's proposed closure of Church Street in Blackburn.

Can I ask the highways planning committee whether the person or persons responsible will stick their chests out and say: "I did that," or more or less hide in shame in a corner?

Apart from the views and objections of Morrisons, Ron O'Keefe, Jeff Stone, what I would like to know is what happens to the traffic that comes up Mincing Lane, turning right for Accrington, etc, and similarly, the traffic from King Street?

Also, what happens to the traffic coming down Eanam/Salford as well as that also down Cicely Lane and the traffic from Penny Street, and Ainsworth Street?

Do they all have to turn left at Railway Road, and along the Boulevard? Imagine the confusion.

As a disabled pensioner, I have no problems crossing the road from the Boulevard. In fact, I have all these options: going through Morrisons, using the nearby pelican crossing or going via the subway. At the White Bull corner there is another pelican crossing and by what was Victoria Street there is yet another and at the top of Church Street by Lloyds Bank there are more pelican crossings.

As the traffic and the public proceed without any problems, why don't they leave well alone?

C CROSSLAND (Mr), Abbotsford Avenue, Blackburn.
