EASTER was egg-stra special for poultry keepers who held their own egg competition at the Duke of York pub, Waterside, Darwen.

More than 100 duck, hen and geese keepers from all over East Lancashire took part in the annual Easter Sunday "Famous Egg Show" to find the perfect clutch of three eggs.

Society secretary Trevor Gosling said the aim was to exhibit three perfectly matched eggs of the same colour and shape.

Children also joined in the fun in the "pace egg" section, where hard boiled eggs were painted with colourful scenes.

Winners included: Best large eggs and Best in show, Driftwood Livestock, Shadsworth; Reserve best large eggs and the Marlyn Wood best of four trophy, Christine Ainscough, Waterside; Best contents, Lisa Somerfield, Waterside; Reserve best contents, Bruce Peacock, Hoddlesden.

John Moran duck prize, Thomas Davies, Stubbins; Best bantam eggs, Reserve Marlyn Wood trophy, Reserve John Moran duck prize and Reserve best in show, Maurice Davenport, Waterside; Reserve best bantam eggs, Sean Kearns, Ramsbottom.
