ROUNDHEAD soldiers camped and fought in the grounds of historic Hoghton Tower in a re-creation of 17th century life (see picture).
Major General Ralph Assheton's Company, part of the Roundhead Association, showed visitors how the officers, soldiers and camp followers lived and worked while on the march during the English Civil War.
The volunteers began building their encampment on Thursday and the living history display was staged on Easter Sunday and yesterday.
Visitors watched soldiers training with replica pikes, muskets and cannon before staging a battle -- complete with wounded soldiers who were given very basic medical treatment in a tent.
Camp followers showed how they lived on the move, cooking and sewing for their menfolk and patching up the injured.
