VISITORS travelled from as far as Manchester and Ripon to attend the 29th Higham Arts and Craft Exhibition.

And, despite attendance not being as high as last year, organisers hope to have raised about £4,000 over five days.

Treasurer Heather Swindlehurst said: "The weather hasn't been very kind to us and there were a lot of other attractions on this Easter, but to make a profit of £4,000 is excellent and a credit to everyone who took part.

"Next year is our 30th anniversary so we are hoping for bigger and better things then."

The event was held in Higham CE Primary School, St John's Church and the Village Hall. Children from the school took part in a competition with the theme of 'time', which was displayed in the church.

Many visited the church to see the on-loan exhibition from Towneley Hall showing the village's connection with Jonas Moore, who became the Surveyor General of the Ordnance at Greenwich Observatory.

Flower displays decorated the inside of the church and the organist played requests.

Craft demonstrations, including egg painting, caricatures and cake decorating were given in the Village Hall, where home-made refreshments were served.
