LANCASTER'S Georgian costumed guides Mr Pilling Dick and Dr Socrates Gripenerve, have organised an Old Calendar St. George's Day Walk in honour of the country's patron saint.

It will start at 7pm on Thursday May 4 at Lancaster Castle's John O'Gaunt Gateway. The cost will be £3 for adults and £1 for children, to be paid at the start of the walk.

The walk is the latest in the dubious duo's regular year-round series of torchlit tours which celebrate various anniversaries and feast days using the dates of the old Julian Calendar. By this calendar, in use in Britain up to 1752, anniversaries fall 11/12 days later than their corresponding dates using the current Gregorian Calendar. Hence, St. George's Day is celebrated in Lancaster on May 4 rather than April 23, as elsewhere.

Mr Dick and Dr Gripenerve are inviting all loyal patriots to join the walk and are encouraging them to war red roses or red rose lapel badges, and, if possible, to carry St George's or Union flags. As will all the Old Calendar Walks, this walk will last about 1 hours and include seasonal readings from Dr Bounce's Book of Days and distributions of the quack Gripenerve's various protective proofs. Especially for this walk will be a re-enactment of St. George slaying the Dragon (the latter played by 'Dogsmeat' the Olde Town Hooden Horse - a regular feature of the perambulations).

The walk ends at the George and Dragon pub on the City's quayside where there will be an Old Calendar Quiz with prizes worth having. There will also be a prize for the most patiotically dressed pedestrian!
