IT was refreshing to read of the rescue of Tina the Terrier in last week's Journal (April 13) "Terrier Tina saved after 4 day ordeal".
However, on closer reading it is a pity that she was rescued by the Fell and Moorland Working Terrier Club, an organisation whose members are committed to killing what little wildlife remains in an increasingly urban area.
Rabbits and foxes are killed in the name of sport by these people, and all too often their own dogs die becoming trapped as Tina did in a rabbit or fox hole and suffocating to death.
These people who derive their pleasure from seeing animals killed in this way are on a par with the people who shot the "Lucky Hollow swans" and do not deserve this positive publicity in The Journal.
I would suggest if Tina's owner, Paul Cunliffe, wished to join an organisation, it would be one which looked out for the welfare of all animals and not one which trains animals to kill our precious wildlife.
