GREEN campaigners in Blackpool banged the environmental drum at Easter weekend when a brand new activist lobby was launched to make the resort cleaner and greener .
Blackpool Environmental Action Team (BEAT) was ushered in on April 22 -- which was also Earth Day, when an estimated 200 million around the globe vowed to make the planet a better place to live.
The organisation consists of representatives from businesses, environmental groups, and local residents together with Blackpool Borough Council.
They aim to push harder for the beaches and sea water to achieve the coveted quality status and cleanliness awards.
They are also hoping to make a difference for residents by tackling litter and by improving cycling routes.
"BEAT is a doorstep revolution which aims to influence people to change their lifestyles to help the environment, and not just stop global warming but also make real changes on every street in Blackpool," said Richard Nulty, Blackpool's community services director.
