IAN Wright will be inducted into the Premiership's Hall of Fame before the Clarets' crunch clash with Cambridge United at Turf Moor tomorrow.

And Burnley's fans will be hoping that's not the last honour he collects this season.

The former England striker, who is being recognised for his goalscoring achievements in the top-flight with Arsenal, has proved increasingly influential for the Clarets and his goal at Brentford on Monday helped keep their promotion hopes alive.

A win over Cambridge tomorrow and at Scunthorpe on Saturday week will take Burnley up if Wigan and Gillingham slip up along the way.

And promotion could yet prompt Wright to delay his retirement plans.

There have been suggestions that he may play on and Burnley will offer him a deal if the 36-year-old decides not to hang up his boots

"I have spoken to him about bits and pieces and we will see. Ian knows my thoughts and the decision will be up to him. That's how I see it," said boss Stan Ternent.

The more immediate priority is three points tomorrow to pile the pressure on Wigan and Gillingham.

"We haven't been out of the top six all season so they've all been big games. This is no different, it's just that the wire is a bit nearer," Ternent added.

"We just need to keep winning. You can never tell what's going to happen but we will be doing our best to win the game, with a little bit of the rub of the green and the fans behind us. "If we do that we can't do any more. The players have done extremely well and had a good season and we need to push on and sort it out now."

Burnley rose to the challenge superbly last weekend when maximum points moved them to within goal difference of an automatic promotion place.

And Ternent knows what it takes to stay the course.

"You have to have courage, a mental toughness and will to win and not be afraid to come first.

"You have to be able to handle it. There's no easy way and there are a lot of teams in our situation. There are six in our division and as long as we finish in the top six at worst, that's the thing," he said.

Burnley will be without the injured Ian Cox and Gordon Armstrong may come in.

Cambridge secured their Second Division safety with a 2-0 win over Preston on Monday, when goalkeeper Lionel Perez kept another clean sheet to make it just five goals conceded in his seven goals for the club since a loan move from Newcastle United.

"He's been a great influence in the short time he's been with us. He's played a huge part in us winning the relegation battle," said manager Roy McFarland, who would love to keep the former Sunderland keeper at the Abbey Stadium on a permanent basis.

"I know it's a bit pie-in-the-sky but it would be lovely if there was a wealthy backer or maybe a group who could spnsor him to stay with us," he added.
