A LYTHAM dog made her debut appearance this week as the new Nipper mascot for music giants HMV.

Meg, a two-year-old Jack Russell, who belongs to Lisa Davies from Lytham, appeared at the Blackpool HMV store on Wednesday (April 26) representing Nipper from the company's world-famous "dog and trumpet" logo.

She was part of a promotion to launch Rock The Dancefloor, the latest CD from radio station Rock FM.

Meg won a telephone vote last December on This Morning with TV stalwarts Richard and Judy, to become the new Nipper when the last one of ten years retired.

The contest was incredibly close but Meg took the lead by the skin of her snout with just eleven more votes than the others. Owner Lisa Davies, who is studying nursery nursing and works part time looking after children, said the competition proved massively popular.

She told The Citizen: "Thousands of dog owners sent in a photograph and a short description of their pet, about things like temperament, likes and dislikes, funny stories etc."

She was visited at her home by researchers and at the end of the elimination stages went down to the This Morning studios with four other finalists to be interviewed by Richard and Judy.

Lisa said: "I had to tell them about the time when Meg fell in the pond in the garden and my boyfriend Johnny had to jump in and save her, but I was so nervous in front of all the cameras.

"The boy band Another Level joined us for a mock photo-shoot, to find out how the dogs reacted to media attention and cameras flashing.

"When they told me live on air we had won I didn't quite know what to say!"

Following her appearance at HMV Blackpool, Meg will travel to the bright lights of London in May to open the country's largest HMV store in Oxford Street.
