BRINGING two doormen to Blackpool may be similar to taking coals to Newcastle.

But when the doormen in question are The Two Rons from comedy pair Hale and Pace it's a breath of fresh air for North Pier.

And that's just what Leisure Parcs entertainments executive, Bob Summers, had to say as he officially announced the summer season for the venue yesterday.

"We are delighted to be the first to bring to the town a couple of entertainers who have never toured before," he added.

And then was immediately upstaged by Gareth and Norman resplendent in black and white as The Management, demanding applause and adding darkly "It's difficult to clap with no hands," before launching into the delightful ditty. "Things may come and things may go. At the Two Ron's North Pier show. So have all your fun and all your frolics. Or else we'll have your...guts for garters."

The Rons then slipped back into the more relaxed roles of Gareth and Norman to chat with the Citizen on why they chose Blackpool for their first ever summer season: "It's the best place that's why," said Norman. "If we are going to do one at all it will have to be Blackpool.

"We've just been on a 30 date tour of Australia practising for this," added Gareth. "Tweaking and fine-tuning our performance if you know what I mean.

"We're a bit different I think to the normal summer season run. I think Leisure Parcs must have fancied a change."

The talented twosome will be joined on this tour by impressionist Hilary O'Neil (not a female impersonator as announced by The Management) and juggler Steve Rawlings who have worked with the duo previously and "they're cheap and we can stick them in a caravan outside. When we're not in it that is."

Familiar favourites will also be very much on show such as the dungaree-wearing Billy and Johnny and perennial hippy duo Jed and Dave along with some new faces in a "feast of entertainment."

Blackpool's North Pier welcomes Hale and Pace from July 5 until October 28 performing every Wednesday to Saturday. For more details and to book tickets call Blackpool Live on (01253) 292029.
