In the second half, Clitheroe came out in lively fashion but Prescot grabbed the match winner 11 minutes into the half. A midfield ball was picked up by Heavey, who pushed it past his marker on the half-way line and set off for goal. The football in this game was high quality despite a heavy Mossley pitch that had a very slippery surface because of rain.

Mossley had the better of the opening exchanges withPrescot keeper Dahl having to punch clear an awkward cross under the challenge of two attackers. Brennan missed a sitter for Mossley from three yards when the ball skidded across the area to him and he shinned it wide. With 15 minutes remaining when the referee dismissed Prescot defender Billows for a second bookable offence. In the 81st minute, a goalmouth scramble, in which Dahl parried two shots, ended with Brennan knocking the ball over the line to give Mossley the lead. Prescot took the lead after 2 minutes when Garforth hit a superb drive from 25 yards. Four minutes later Underwood got a hand to a fiercely struck 20-yard free kick from Stanton but was unable to stop it going in.

Great Harwood pulled one back five minutes later when Brown was left unmarked in the penalty box and steered a crossed ball in from eight yards.

Underwood made saves from efforts by Rudd and O 'Callaghan before being beaten for a third time when Heavey, fed by O 'Callaghan, slipped the ball past him with only 26 minutes gone.

On 57 minutes, O 'Callaghan hit a terrific volley from 20 yards that flew into the net with Underwood once more rooted to the spot. O'Callaghan got Prescot's fifth, when he turned in the area and found the net with a shot that deceived the keeper.At 5-1, Prescot brought on substitute keeper Wood and put Dahl up front to lead the attack. A run into the box by Garforth caused enough confusion that a Great Harwood defender steered the ball into his own goal. Dahl claimed the goal despite being 10 yards away from the incident.

Lightbown got a consolation goal for Great Harwood in the last minute.

The first half of this game was a tame affair, with both sides playing below their true potential.But a torrential downpour at half-time left the playing surface very slippery and it served to speed up the game. Prescot got the opening goal after 59 minutes when Weston stabbed the ball home in a goalmouth scramble. Rudd got Prescot's second three minutes later when he volleyed home a cross from Smith from the edge of the area. Prescot's final match of the season is at home on Saturday against Glossop North End.
