THE St Helens Combination's Open Age Inter League outfit went out of the North West Alliance Inter League championship at the semi-final stage.

The team, gave a very good display in atrocious weather at Victoria Park, Warrington before a 'last second' third goal by Warrington ended a terrific fight-back.

Meanwhile, the Garswood Trophies Hospital Cup Final at Hoghton Road on Good Friday saw Carr Mill defeat Shoe FC. The opening half was a typical war of nerves, with a basketful of mistakes. But just on the interval a darting attack from Carr Mill's Gary Ball resulted in a penalty dwhich Damion Owen stroked home.

Immediately on the re-start Shoe threw everything into getting on terms, this they did on 48 minutes when Paul Rigby's direct free-kick from 20 yards thundered onto the underside of the bar and referee Denis Deluce was on the spot to grant the goal.

The game then once again levelled out until the resumption of extra-time at 1-1. Two minutes into extra time Carr Mill earned a free kick on the left and from the low cross, Robbie Stroud put Carr Mill ahead with a superb glancing header. In the closing minutes, another penalty chance came Damion Owens way for Carr Mill, but he was thwarted by a great save, by his legs, from Shoe keeper John Chisnall. Combination President Bert Rawsthorne presented the cup and trophies.

In Saturday's Tom Worrall Cup semi-finals, College St Helens 3-0 beating of Broad Oak put them through to face Clock Face Miners Welfare Reserves in the May 5 final at Ruskin Drive, Eddie Furlong (twice) and Rob Dillon goals counting.

Clock Face Miners Welfare Reserves' 3-0 win over Hardshaw Argyle was sadly marred by the serious leg injury suffered by Hardshaw defender, Mark Bailey, The Combination's best wishes to Mark who is, it is believed, now quite comfortable after surgery.
