PRESTON boss David Moyes celebrated his team's promotion to Division One by urging the fans to back them next season in the First Division.

The Scot, who celebrated his birthday this week, issued his plea in the wake on Monday's defeat, which secured them the Division Two title thanks to other results.

He said: "The supporters have been fantastic this season.

"We have averaged crowds of 13,000 and I'll be disappointed if we don't get 15,000 regularly in the First Division next season."

And while money may well be available for squad strengthening, the manager is in no hurry to bring anyone else into a team which already includes stars like Sean Gregan, Michael Jackson and Jon Macken.

Being unusually frank the boss said: "I want to be as loyal as possible to the players who have got us promoted.

"I don't want to speak too soon about bringing in new players during the summer because the team that has taken us into Division One has worked very hard."

Sources within the clubs say permanent contracts are on the table for Bjarki Gunnlaugsson, Brett Angell and Iain Anderson, so the advice to fans seems to be -- don't expect any surprises on the not-retained list.
