BEFORE launching a scathing attack on disabled people, S Unsworth (Letters, June 2) should look a little deeper into the possible cause of the problem.

It was stated that special places reserved for parents with small children were often taken up by disabled drivers and that if disabled bays were full, the drivers should park somewhere other than parent/child spaces instead of being 'lazy and not giving a hoot!'

The fact is that disabled bays often cannot be used due to them being filled by able-bodied people and since the disabled, like parents with children, need extra space to get in and out of their cars, it is not always possible for them to park just anywhere.

There are a limited number of disabled/parent and child spots in Blackburn and Darwen so I can appreciate why S Unsworth gets frustrated, but as the mother of a small child and wife of a disabled husband, I feel it is not the disabled minority you should be getting at. It should be the small number of inconsiderate able-bodied people who don't give a hoot for anyone else.

D SHILSON (Mrs), Brandwood Street, Darwen.
