HEALTH bosses were poised to close eight beds and lose six jobs at Blackburn Royal Infirmary -- but said the move would improve services for children. The plan to save £70,000 a year by turning two children's wards into a single paediatric unit was criticised by Coun Frank Gorton, who said: "It means fewer children can be admitted if a necessity arises."
