A BURGLAR who escaped custody when he was convicted, is now behind bars after blowing his chance.

Burnley Crown Court had heard how Scott Lang, now 20, had been given a combination order and was then given a new order after he breached it. He had not done any hours of the work given -- and a judge told him he had to send him to detention.

Assistant Recorder David Hernandez said the original court had taken a lenient view in the first place after the raid, carried out over a "petty grievance." Lang had shown an unwillingness to comply with a non-custodial sentence.

Lang, of Nuttall Street, Accrington, was sent to custody for eight months and the combination order of 43 hours community service and 12 months probation, imposed last July, was revoked. He admitted breaching the requirements of both parts of the order.

Paul Hague, prosecuting, said audio equipment worth £270 was taken in the burglary and two people later took the defendant to the victims' home and said he had done it. Police were called and Lang took them to a house where the stereo was found.
