BURNLEY striker Ian Wright has quit professional football.

The former Arsenal and England striker will announce his decision on the Jerry Springer show this Friday and will not play for Burnley again.

Wright has cited family commitments as the reason behind his decision.

"It's a really hard decision because I've got all the people in Burnley, the manager is a close friend and I've made really good friends up there but on the other hand my little girl is growing more and more naughty and she doesn't even listen to me because she hardly ever sees me," he said.

"My family are the major factors in me not playing anymore plus I have had a very good career and it is other people's turn now." Wright joined Burnley in February and was an instant hit, scoring four goals in his time there and helping the Clarets gain automatic promotion to Division One.

Manager Stan Ternent had hoped to persuade the 36-year-old to continue his Turf Moor career even if it was just on a month to month basis.

And it looked like he could be persuaded once his best friend Mitchell Thomas signed a new deal with the Clarets.

But Wright, who has won the Premiership, the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners Cup medal theoughout an illustrious career, has decided to call it a day.
