P3 WILL not be the Clarets' main sponsors next season.

The Burnley-based technology company, club sponsors for the last two years, have offered an improved package -- through their Internet arm P3 Online -- but it has been rejected.

"We made the offer but Burnley FC feel that in light of their recent success they are in a position to hold out for a better deal," said Paul Cumpstey, Managing Director at P3.

The company took up the shirt deal at Turf Moor in February 1998, with the Clarets struggling in the Second Division.

And P3 feel disappointed that they cannot continue the sponsorship as Burnley rise into the big time again with promotion to the First Division.

"We were in our infancy as a firm and the sponsorship represented a massive decision at the time," continued Cumpstey.

"We knew the club's predicament -- they were rock bottom and looked destined for a spell in the Third Division -- but we put our money where our mouth is, actually paying for the first year up front.

"Being keen fans we wanted to help out and we felt having our name emblazoned across the Clarets shirts would be the perfect vehicle for raising our profile throughout the region."

"We were very hopeful of continuing the sponsorship, but Burnley FC officials have declined our offer and there is not a great deal more we can do," said P3 Online Director Phil Whitehead.

"However, our support for the Clarets both individually and collectively is guaranteed. We are parting on good terms and are keen to maintain close relations with the club."
